Used of technology in future laboratory

The recent science laboratory needs some improvement to make the experiments more effective and efficient. In my opinion, the science laboratories in each school need to be equipped with computerised technology. The most important is by providing a wireless connection with high speed router in each laboratory. This will helps the students to search for the information faster or they can view the online practical demonstration. Other than that, the students can also do the practical virtually in 3D version. For example, when they are doing the chemistry practical, they could avoid from spilling corrosive chemicals or any breakage.

Other than that, the laboratory needs to provide a safety zone for the students. This will ensure the students safety while doing the practical in the laboratory. The safety zone will include fire extinguisher, coat and other safety apparatus. Other technology that each school needs to have is the bar code scanner. This equipment is used to scan the expired date of the chemicals in the laboratories. In terms of sitting arrangement, each student should have an individual work station for them. It will provide more conducive environment for the learning process to takes place. The work station can be equipped with monitors for learning without referring to the white board like the normal method.

Nowadays, the teaching of science has been integrated with the used of technology. In Brunei, most of the teachers are using ICT in their teaching. The most common way is by using the powerpoint presentation to teach a lesson. For example, I had been using the powerpoint slides to teach the topic on Friction during my teaching practice.

From my observation, it was quite useful especially for the students who likes to see various animation related to that topic. This was because some students learn more from visual than auditory ways. Other than using the slides, different videos can also be used. The videos can be in terms of relating it with real life situations.
